South Central Washington Coordinated Weed Management Area
A Coordinated Weed Management Area (CWMA) is a defined geographic area within which multiple and diverse stakeholders agree to work together to better conduct invasive weed management, including education, inventory and mapping, treatment, and prevention.
The South Central Washington CWMA currently encompasses Klickitat County, Yakima County, and all of the Yakima Training Center. We are working on coordinated weed management efforts under an Memorandum of Understanding. We are dedicated to manage, control, and prevent the spread of noxious weeds and displacement of natural ecosystems in Yakima and Klickitat Counties.
We currently have five committees: Steering Committee, Grants & Funding Committee, Education & Info. Committee, Mapping & Data Committee, and Science Committee.
If you would like to get involved, or receive more information, please send an email to Kat Strathmann, CWMA Chair. The SCW CWMA is being housed and facilitated by the Washington RC&D Council.
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
Our MOU states that: "the key to accomplishing our purpose is a non-regulatory and voluntary partnership between agencies, conservation organizations, and interested private landowners. The driving force is collaboration with a mutual interest in increasing the effectiveness of invasive plant management in south-central Washington, and thus reducing the threat of invasive plant species to natural, economic, and cultural resources, as well as the human communities of the Yakima and Klickitat area".
